Road to Tokyo!

GO SPAIN, GO!

At Born we defend sport, effort and perseverance. That is why we want to encourage and send all our support to all the Olympic athletes who will be representing our country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

In particular, we wanted to send our support to the Spanish rhythmic gymnastics team. This year is the first year in history that the Spanish national team will not compete in rhythmic gymnastics at the Olympic Games, having been left out in both the individual and ensemble categories.

Rhythmic gymnastics is an exclusive event for women at the Olympic Games. Both individual athletes and teams of five will perform with balls, hoops, clubs and ribbons. At each of the Olympic Games, one piece of equipment is omitted: this year the rope will be omitted.

Victoria Cuadrillero Redondo, former Spanish rhythmic gymnast, was a member of the Spanish national rhythmic gymnastics team in the ensemble modality, and starred in our Chameleonic collection photo shoot.

THE PROTAGONISTS OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN TOKYO

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games open today. After having to be postponed for a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the day has arrived. For these Olympic Games, Spain has more than 300 athletes competing in almost all sports representing our country. In total there will be 321 Spanish athletes, of which 137 are women competing in 29 sports.

Spain's prognosis for the Tokyo Olympics is quite optimistic. Sandra Sanchez is the favorite candidate to win in Karate, a novelty in these Olympic Games. Having been world champion in 2018 and 2019, and four times European champion, Sandra is positioned in the favorites in this category.

Lydia Valentín, one of the best Spanish athletes in history will compete in the Weightlifting category. At 36 years old, she accumulates a palmares, being a triple Olympic medalist: gold in London 2012, silver in Beijing 2008 and bronze in Rio 2016. In addition, Lydia has announced that these will be her last Olympic Games, so it would be a great closure to her career.

Representing women's tennis will be Garbiñe Muguruza: winner of two Grand Slams and finalist of two others. She is one of the best tennis players on the women's circuit and a medal candidate in Tokyo.

Ana Peleteiro competes in Athletics. The Galician athlete is the current European indoor triple jump champion, beating the twelve-year record held by Carlota Castrejana.

The girls that make up the women's national water polo team were champions in Budapest 2020 and runners-up in the world in 2019, so the hope remains of winning a medal again in these Games.

We cannot forget more protagonists such as Fátima Gálvez competing for the medal in shooting, María Pérez in walking and the pair of Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero in sailing. As for national teams, both the Spanish women's field hockey team and the women's handball team have a good chance of winning a medal.

CAROLINA MARÍN, AN IMPORTANT CASUALTY AT THE TOKYO OLYMPIC GAMES

Carolina Marin, badminton player and reigning Olympic Champion, will miss the Olympic Games due to a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and both meniscus of the left knee. At 27 years of age, the Spaniard has been forced to withdraw this time to recover and return with more strength. "This is another blow that I have to face, but have no doubt that I will be back," Carolina shared in a statement.
